The price of a popular lottery game is going up. It’s the odds no gambler wants to be dealt.
The New Year will bring about a new price for Powerball tickets. The lottery game will double to $2.00 if you purchase a ticket in South Dakota. The State Legislature’s Rules Review Committee approved the changes on Tuesday.
Powerball players in Rapid City say they’re on the fence about the ticket hike.
“It will probably make me not want to play so much, probably once every other month or so,” said Jennawade Bachmie, who plays twice a month.
Committee members say the hike will increase state revenue by 5%. Powerball tickets raked–in $13 million in fiscal year 2011. More than $3 million went to construction and general funds.
