One man’s trash doesn’t have to be another man’s treasure now that a popular television show is in Rapid City.

Antiques Roadshow made its first ever appearance in South Dakota. More than 5,000 people lined up at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center on Saturday to have their valuable treasures appraised.

Rapid City is 1 of 6 stops on the summer tour, where 3 shows from each location will air on PBS in January.

Producers say they’ve seen a lot of rare items and more people than expected.

“Over 7600 people wanted to come for the 3000 pairs of tickets we gave out,” said producer Marsha Bemko. “We always count on some people not coming. It’s too many people coming. We’re going to have a great turn out today. I think South Dakota is happy to see us.”

The most expensive appraisal was a set of molesworth furniture set valued at more than $200,000.
